When I tell people I live in [Area], they think…

Introduction

This Reel flips the narrative—and that’s exactly why it works.

Most buyers have a surface-level impression of your area: traffic, sprawl, or sky-high prices. But that’s not the whole story.

Inspired by Marie Lee’s viral Instagram Reel, this format is a smart way to shift perception in 7 seconds or less.

Here’s why it works:

  • It creates contrast—what people think vs. what’s true.
  • It uses humor and visual storytelling to reframe objections.
  • It builds local pride while educating your audience.

A few example angles you could use:

  • “When I say I live in East Nashville, they think I mean Broadway crowds… but I really mean tree-lined streets and neighbors who bring you sourdough.”

  • “When I say I’m in Miami, they picture traffic on I-95… but I’m really biking to a quiet café two blocks from the bay.”

  • “When I say I live in Jersey City, people think it’s just high-rises and PATH trains… but I really mean farmers markets and parks with skyline views.”

  • “When I say I live in Scottsdale, they think I mean golf courses and gated communities… but I really mean trails, tacos, and sunset hikes after work.”

Use this Reel to reclaim the narrative—and connect with buyers who want what you see every day.

2. Customize the Design

  • Update the text to match your area. Use your voice, your language.
  • Add emojis to make it feel playful or local (e.g. 🌇🚲🌳).
  • Keep both slides short and punchy:
    • Slide 1: “When I say I live in [Area], people think I mean this…”
    • Slide 2: “But I really mean this…”

3. Download the Canva Slides

  • Click “Share” > “Download”
  • Choose MP4 if you added video clips inside Canva, or PNG/JPG if you're just downloading the text overlays.
  • Save them to your phone.

4. Record Two Short Video Clips

You’ll need two vertical clips, about 3–5 seconds each:

  • Clip 1 (for Slide 1): Misconception (e.g. traffic, touristy area, high-rise skyline).
  • Clip 2 (for Slide 2): The real vibe (e.g. local coffee shop, quiet street, community park).

Shoot vertically (9:16) for Instagram Reels.

📢 You list your home, expecting strong interest—maybe even multiple offers.

But instead? Silence.

Buyers scroll past. Showings are slow. And after weeks on the market, you’re left with fewer options than you expected—lower offers, a price reduction, or relisting altogether.

This is common when a home is priced too high.

🔹 The first week is when your home gets the most attention—when buyers are searching actively and ready to make offers.
🔹 But if your price is too high? Buyers hesitate or move on to homes they see as a better deal.
🔹 The longer your home sits, the less desirable it appears, and the harder it becomes to get strong offers.

Now, there are times when pricing above market can work. Some homes have features that set them apart. But even in those cases, it takes the right approach—not just a high number and hope.

And just to be clear—even a well-priced home won’t always sell overnight. Some markets move slower than others, and that’s not a reflection of your home’s value. The key is patience, strategy, and trusting the process.

Selling soon? Let’s talk about a pricing strategy that works for your home, your market, and your goals.
