The $500 million dollar project that will completely revitalize Mastic Beach’s business district is in the works, with an expected start date as early as next year. The plan currently calls for a modern, mixed-use downtown area with up to 630 housing units, 130,000 square feet of retail and office space, 16,000 square feet of civic space, parking garages, roadway and sidewalk improvements and a sewage treatment facility that would be part of the initial phase of infrastructure. The project is led by master developer @beechwoodhomes , who plans to model the revamp after downtown Westhampton Beach and has gained inspiration from their prior revitalization of the Rockaways. So far, the community has rallied in excitement and support, however, there have been concerns expressed regarding the worsening of traffic and housing affordability. What do you think of the proposed project? How do you think this will impact downtown Mastic Beach!?
