Back in August, @eric.chang.design invited me to see his impressive new project – a 6 bedroom, 10,500 SF home in Georgetown whose storied architectural history dates back to the 1840’s. In partnership with two local real estate developers, Eric spent two years leading the extensive renovations on this expansive home, turning a 1-acre estate into a design wonderland and residential rental concept equipped with a concierge service, pool, and spa. An afternoon to explore was not enough to take it all in, I quickly realized. The home in its entirety feels expertly balanced; a refined palette of bright & dark rooms, softer textures with sculptural pieces of art, and natural materials with contemporary gestures left me wondering whether I was really & truly in DC. In my daydreams, this is where I’m resting my head each night! To name only a few highlights from the visit: - Original parquet walnut floors in the dining room- A grand living room with original historic details, balanced by a custom, porcelain chandelier - The spa (a former greenhouse) with a hot & cold plunge, both overlooking the garden- An actual greenhouse, with some seating for when you need a rest, beside a dedicated event space - A spiral staircase hand-finished in plaster from a craftsmen from Italy - The en-suite yoga studio within one of the bedrooms- A cozy front parlor with double fireplacesThank you Eric for showing me around and sharing more about your creative process, and kudos on this stunning work! It is a welcome addition to the our residential design scene.
